BLACK AUTHORS SUPPORT LITERACY IN KENYA
"In The Season Of Giving, Give A Book"

Upper Marlboro, Maryland. --  On December 13, 2008, African American Authors will gather to speak about their latest publications and support the effort to improve literacy in rural Kenya through the "Books for Africa" nonprofit at the Holiday Book Fair taking place in Prince George's County, Maryland's Show Place Arena/Equestrian Center. The event is free to the public.
The Black Author Showcase (BAS) is working with Books for Africa via the "Bring a Book and a Buck" campaign to collect and ship books to Kenya. Diane Williams cofounder of the Black Autho r Showcase said,  "In this historic election year, when our President-elect has direct family ties to Kenya , we consider it an honor and civic duty to help spread a message of hope and change via literacy." Books for Africa currently has shipped more than 20 million books to Africa . Yet despite that tremendous effort, today, many African schools and libraries in rural areas still have bare shelves where books should be sitting.
More than 1400 individuals have joined Black Author Showcase, a fast growing Internet social network and online community for anyone who helps bring a book to life including authors, readers, publishers, photographers, librarians, reviewers, graphic designers, editors, ghostwriters, agents, and others. The BAS sponsors several "off line" events each year.
